DSCN0738-3213404_260x260I am in Seattle, WA at Eastside Feldenkrais attending segment 9 of 12. With guest trainer Arlyn Zones (pictured with me), we are learning how this method benefits children, people with cerebral palsy and of course, the general public. We are learning as much unconsciously as we are learning consciously, often referred to as “learning from the inside out.” We are learning concepts of “global flexion,” “strange attractors,” and “muscle synergy,” Every day our brains are taking in more and more information that simmers until we have an “ah ha” moment, or in some cases, we just fall asleep!

This method is difficult to explain because it is a paradigm shift from how we are used to thinking about improving ourselves. There is no cause and effect, there is no specific “treatment” for a sore back or poor posture because everyone is different in how they see their self image and with each person we have to start from scratch. So, we learn how to listen to a person listening to themselves. We tune our own nervous systems so that we can sense it in another person.

There are 22 of us that have been together since we started this journey in October 2011, and we are all getting taller.

I am teaching a Feldenkrais:Awareness Through Movement® class this summer for teens and adults. It will be offered twice a week, on Monday’s from Noon-12:50 pm and Thursday’s from 6-7 pm. The cost of the class for 1x per week for 7-weeks is $75, or 2x per week for 7-weeks for $135. The Summer semester runs June 23-August 8, 2014. I hope you’ll join me!
