My favorite quote from Midsummer Night’s Dream is: “And though she be little, she be fierce.” I love the idea of that word fierce. We use it often in the world of dance and I think that this performance, in particular, offers an air of fierceness. I’ve been asked recently what I want the audience to come away with after this performance and I think this answer is two-fold.

One – I want the audience to come away being “wow’d” by the fierce talent that exists in our city. We are lucky to have such a rich dance community with so many talented and brilliant dancers.

Two – I want the audience to be moved by the fact that this show in particular supports scholarship and outreach students allowing them to achieve their dreams.

Now, this last statement is quite lofty. But it is the truth. Without this fundraiser, we would not be able to offer the scholarships that we have for students who want to become professionals in the field. Students who want to take their fierceness out of this city and spread it around – to hopefully some day return and share their fierceness in teaching others.

This performance, nay, fundraiser, allows you to experience the spark of fire that is beginning to burn in Fort Wayne. The fire of new and exciting experiences. So purchase a ticket and call yourself a pioneer. A pioneer of new events. A pioneer of the arts. A pioneer of fierceness.
