We love Motus Dance Theatre

One of the Dance Collective’s sister organizations in Indianapolis, Motus Dance Theatre, has an great event coming up the weekend after next. Much like the Choreographers’ Lab we held in early 2009, Motus is holding a concert called Cultivate: A Choreographer’s Showcase. Not only does it provide a rare change for developing choreographers to experiment and present their work to the public, but it also let’s the dancers and other choreographers themselves see and provide feedback. It is a shining example of the collective process that we hold so dear. And (my favorite!) the choreographers have been blogging! Check them out at the Motus blog.

Another FWDC/Motus connection — our own Liz Monnier was invited to come be a judge at the Sunday performance! She’s excited, not only to be an ambassador for Motus’s dance partners to the northeast, but also to do what she loves — seeing choreographers bloom. We got this change late last month with Dark Dance, Deadly Tongue — it gave choreographers a chance to cut loose with spooky creative works.

Some events in 2011 where we’re going to give choreographers a chance to access dancers, rehearsal space, and perform:

  • Choreographer’s Lab: Feb 12, 2011 — Much like our 2009 Lab, we hold a simple performance in our Elliott Studio Theatre to show what our choreographers can do! More on this soon.
  • Indiana Dancers Showcase: April 2, 2011 — Technically this is bigger than just FWDC. Part of the Indiana Dance Festival, we have a committee to accept and review submissions for a big performance at the Arts United Center. Last time we did this in 2007, we had performances by dancers from Indiana University, Ball State, IPFW, Fort Wayne Ballet, Susurrus in Indy, and even Motus Dance Theatre! More information about this and the Indiana Dance Festival is over at IndianaDance.org.

So, get thee to Indianapolis Nov. 19-21 and check them out!  Good luck, Motus!
