Fort Wayne Dance Collective has received the program for Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s (DCDC) repertory concert on March 21 at the Arts United Center! I’ll save the program for another blog. We’ll first take a look at the choreographers of the four pieces they will present in Fort Wayne starting with Ronen Koresh, the Artistic Director of Koresh Dance Company from Philadelphia. Ronen grew up in Israel and first trained as a folk dancer and then turned to a more comprehensive study of dance before joining Martha Graham’s Batsheva Dance Company. His creative movement signature dazzles audiences with a raw blend of ballet, modern and jazz. Fort Wayne audiences will love his musical choices from “all over the world.”

Choreographer, Alvin Rangel, a former member of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, brings his passion of Tango to the program, as he experiments with different dancer/gender roles.

Ray Mercer, the choreographer (not the boxer) is currently dancing on Broadway starring in The Lion King. He has won numerous awards for his performance and choreography. This guy has been around the block working with such artists as Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, Louise Johnson and Garth Fagan. Mercer had this to say about DCDC, “I think what’s smart about them (DCDC) is they’re bringing in choreographers, innovative choreographers, to keep the work alive – to keep art alive.”

Choreographer, Kiesha Lalama was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2009 and has been honored with numerous awards. She holds degrees from Goddard College and Point Park University. She has created over 50 works including choreography for films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Sorority Row.

Take a moment to watch the video, hear from the choreographers, DCDC ‘s Executive and Artistic Directors and  company members, and get a sneak peek of a powerful collaboration piece they did for their 45th Anniversary.
