Students will explore the fundamentals of the fue, the Japanese bamboo flute, while engaging with both traditional and contemporary Japanese music. Lessons guide the development of breath control, tone quality, and technique through accessible exercises that gradually advance into complete pieces. Musicians and dancers alike are invited to deepen their appreciation for Japanese musical traditions through solo material and collaboration with the Taiko ensemble while developing musical confidence in a supportive environment. To participate, students will need a number 8 utabue flute, with a number 6 model optional for extended exploration.
