This year we will see choreography excerpts from Motus Dance Theatre’s “IN” performance from Indianapolis about “in-clusion.” We’ll also see student dancers from Weisser Park School, IPFW, North Side High School and South Side High School. Please come and support emerging artists!

Performances will be February 18 at 7 pm and February 19 at 2 pm in the FWDC’s Elliot Studio. Tickets are just $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

RUBBERBANDance Group!

“A marvel of speed, precision and invention”
-Dance Magazine

“hip-hop mixed with ballet”
-Time Out Chicago

Every April since 1989, the Fort Wayne Dance Collective brings a guest artist to Fort Wayne. This year, we are proud and thrilled to present RUBBERBANDance Group from Montréal, Canada. They will be performing the piece, Gravity of Center. After years of exploring dance and theatre from urban, classical and contemporary angles, Victor Quijada, Artistic Director/Choreographer, formed Rubberbandance Group in 2002. Presenting choreographic works that examine human relationships, this extraordinary collection of world-class dancers articulates the perfect marriage between explosive hip-hop physicality and the subtle profoundness of contemporary story telling. A combination of the narrative, the spectacular, and freedom of break dancing with the abstraction, nuances, and technique of contemporary dance results in a true hybrid of dance forms. Anne Plamondon joined the group in 2002 as a dancer and contributed highly to the growth and development of the company.  She has been co-artistic director of RBDG since September 2005.

This breath-taking fusion of contemporary ballet and break dancing is sure to excite and amaze. Please save the date April 14, 2012 for this performance at the Arts United Center.

  • Lecture/Demonstration-Friday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Arts United Center. Tickets are $5

Phantoms and Phobias!

Fort Wayne Dance Collective presents the third annual Halloween performance, “Phantoms and Phobias.” This years’ theme will expose the deepest, darkest fears and inner phantoms that plague the demented minds of 9 choreographers. Matthew Farmer, guest choreographer from Hope College, will be presenting Acosticophobia. Brittney Tun’s piece will focus on Coulrophobia, and Kara Wilson will explore Agoraphobia just to name a few. These disturbing pieces will beg the question…what are YOU afraid of?

As part of the Downtown Improvement District’s Fright Night, this year’s Halloween show promises to be more demented than ever! The trolley will be stopping at FWDC to drop off victims…I mean patrons who dare to watch this twisted performance. The performances will be Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Sunday, October 23 at 2 p.m. Be sure to catch one of these bone-chilling performances…or else!

Special thanks to choreographers: Liz Monnier, Alison Gerardot, Erlinda Wall, and Britney Tun as well as dancers: Kelly Holt, Kara Wilson, Erlinda Wall, Liz Monnier, Jordyn Rigler, and Miranda Bearman. We would also like to thank our musicians Mike Conley, Sunny Taylor Berry, Erik Möllberg and Bray Coughlin, and live artists Diane Gaby and Patricia Crawford for contributing their talents. We also want to thank the Downtown Improvement District for asking us to collaborate with them in doing a flash mob for Busker Square and thanks to End Times Spasm Band for providing such fun dance music! Thanks to everyone for your support and we hope to see you all September 7th as we kick off our Fall 2011 semester!
